Ever since he was a young man, he has made a point of not celebrating his own. “The worst thing you can do is sing Happy Birthday, a bunch of people with bad voices,” he says. “Every day can be exciting. It doesn’t have to have cakes and a bunch of people pretending they give a shit.” So on the day he turned 84, he started shooting a movie.
