James Cameron buys more Wairarapa properties

James Cameron’s Wairarapa buy-up continues with the purchase of two more properties.

The Avatar and Titanic director has now bought at least 12 properties near Carterton, in the area of Western Lake Rd.

Land Information New Zealand today released some details on the latest purchases.

It said Cameron, through his New Zealand company T Base 2, had bought 6.7 hectares of land on Western Lake Rd and a separate parcel of 41.43 hectares.

According to LINZ: ”James Cameron and his family intend to reside indefinitely in New Zealand. They are acquiring the land as part of a larger acquisition of land in South Wairarapa which they will use as a residence and working farm.”

Last year, he bought a 420-hectare dairy farm on Western Lake Rd for a confidential sum.

It was his 10th property purchase in the area in less than two years.

Other purchases include a walnut orchard in Carterton and a 10-hectare property in Western Lake Rd.

Documents issued under the Official Information Act in 2012 showed that Cameron applied for New Zealand residency under Immigration New Zealand’s Investment Plus category, which is restricted to people investing more than $10 million.

He was required to spend at least 88 days in the country over two years to meet his residency requirements.
