It’s every Hollywood publicist’s nightmare: When stars suddenly forget about the extremely expensive movie they’re getting paid heaps of money to promote and stray into subjects that make them look ridiculous

That had studios sweating blood, and we all know how long Cruise was in movie star jail before audience started to like his movies again.
So you can imagine how nervous Hollywood is feeling after Will Smith went off topic this week while promoting his new $100 million-plus movie, After Earth.
He comes off extremely kooky in an interview he did with his 14-year-old son and After Earth co-star, Jaden, in New York Magazine.
In it, Smith and son start espousing some very bizarre theories about patterns and multi-dimensional mathematics.
Here are some choice extracts. Try not to laugh:
Smith: “I’m a student of patterns. At heart, I’m a physicist. I look at everything in my life as trying to find the single equation, the theory of everything.”
….
Jaden: “I think that there is that special equation for everything, but I don’t think our mathematics have evolved enough for us to even-I think there’s, like, a whole new mathematics that we’d have to learn to get that equation.
Smith: “I agree with that.”
Jaden: “It’s beyond mathematical. It’s, like, multidimensional mathematical, if you can sort of understand what I’m saying.”
When asked if either of them are religious – a dangerous question because Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have been frequently linked to Scientology – Smith acts like he suddenly remembers he’s on tape, and gives the bland reply: “No, we are students of world religion …
