Michael Buble claims many singers are like “robots” because their vocals all sound the same.
The star has waded into the auto tuning debate, which sees recording studios use special software to improve people’s pitch and sound. Buble wishes more music stars trusted their vocal skills enough not to rely on such technology.
“Yes it’s overused, oh yeah, I don’t even know how people sound anymore because they sound like robots,” he told the BBC.
Buble is gearing up for the release of his sixth studio album To Be Loved, which will be available worldwide this month.
The 37-year-old singer is famed for his love of big band numbers and the latest record features covers by some of his music heroes as well as new tunes including It’s a Beautiful Day.
Buble insists he has no problem using auto tuning in the studio, but only on certain tracks.
“I am against Pro tools because when I make a standard, I have the whole orchestra around me because I have better pitch that way, I feel like the performance is better, I feel I am in the moment,” he explained. “But when I make a pop song, like It’s a Beautiful Day, then I use it. I try to make it sound a little more modern.”
Buble has been singing for many years now and has attracted fans all over the world.
The star realised he had a talent to entertain from an early age and loved belting out classic ’80s dance tunes.
“I knew there was a smoothness, I knew when I sang… I have never said this to anyone before, but I remember being young, I was a kid, I remember singing, ‘Abra Abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab you.’ And I remember thinking to myself, ‘That sounds pretty smooth.’ I had dance moves for it too,” Buble recalled.
