As 15,000 music fans head to the Wellington waterfront for Homegrown, police are hoping for more sober crowds than last year.
Last year, paramedics were inundated with vomiting teenagers who had been pre-loading before arriving at the Kiwi music fest.
A raft of new security measures are in place this year, including pre-registration of under-18s at the event. Teens between the minimum age of 15 and 18 will have to provide their birth certificate and their parent’s contacts details.
In charge of the police presence at the event, Inspector John Spence said he was hoping for a good, calm day.
“Staff are monitoring closely the levels of intoxication. The message is out there.”
Homegrown opened at 1pm, with acts including Sons of Zion, Fire At Will and Thomas Oliver and Louis Baker on its eight stages.
