Holly Hunter got a boost on International Women’s Day with the news that her animated character Elastigirl topped a UK poll for best screen mum.
The character, voiced by Hunter in the 2004 Disney Pixar film The Incredibles, was voted ahead of Harry Potter’s mum Lily in the survey.
Hunter, who is about to appear in Jane Campion’s series Top of the Lake, said that Elastigirl was a great role model for today’s women.
“I think she’s so intuitive and so compassionate,” she says.
“She has incredible power and I think she has great judgement that’s accompanied with the power… and she’s a lot of fun.”
