Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has missed out at winning an Academy Award this year.
The second instalment of the Hobbit trilogy had been nominated for best visual effects, best sound editing and best sound mixing but was beaten by Hollywood blockbuster Gravity in all categories.
Jackson’s first Hobbit movie also missed out last year after being nominated for best visual effects, best makeup and hairstyling, and best production design.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was nominated for 30 Oscar nominations and won 17.
