Happy Birthday, Amy Winehouse: Remembering The Singer

Winner of the Artist’s Choice Award, Amy Winehouse speaks during the show at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007. She is greatly missed by all of her fans.

The immensely talented, but greatly troubled, Amy Winehouse would have turned 29-years-old. The singer/songwriter was said to have been a highly emotional and sensitive person person whom at a very young age sought solace for her troubles through alcohol and eventually succumbed  to alcoholism. She is greatly missed by all whom her tragically short life touched.

“Will you love me tomorrow?” Amy Winehouse croons on her posthumous 2011 compilation, “Lioness: Hidden Treasures.” The answer is a resounding yes. Winehouse would have been 29 years old today, which only emphasizes how much the pint-size singer had already achieved in her short 27 years: five Grammys, a host of top-10 singles and a chorus line that everyone can mouth along to (“no, no, no”).

Her legacy lives on outside of music, too. In honor of her 29th birthday, the Amy Winehouse Foundation, established by Winehouse’s father, Mitch, announced that ithas raised more than $373,000 (or £230,000) to help disadvantaged youth. According to NME, the latter also includes Winehouse’s alma matter, the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.

Winehouse was found dead at her London home on July 23, 2011; the cause of death was alcohol poisoning.
