Music has helped internet mogul Kim Dotcom through two “tough” years – culminating in the release of his album tonight.
The record, called Good Times, had its first airing at the Megaupload founder’s Coatesville mansion tonight.
He is currently awaiting an extradition hearing, set for April, as he is charged by the US Government with copyright conspiracy.
Media, celebrities and musicians were invited to attend the glitzy launch alongside Dotcom’s co-artists, co-accused, his wife and their puppy.
Dotcom told how the morning of the raid on his home in which he was arrested, he’d been at the studio working on the album with musician friends.
“Those guys stayed there and worked and when they got home from the studio all their luggage was lying on the floor of the guest house being searched,” Dotcom said.
He said when he came out to face the judge in court “his boys” were there for him.
“My first adjustment was can I go to the studio to finish the music with these guys.”
“Being in the studio has helped me push through these tough times. I’m really grateful for that,” he said.
Contributors on the album include Kiwi artist Tiki Taane.
Dotcom said he thought people would be “surprised” by the tunes.
It was also announced that Dotcom’s music would play at the Rhythm and Vines New Year’s Eve festival at midnight.
