Gay rumours irrelevant, says Cowell

Simon Cowell isn’t concerned gossips think he’s gay because it has zero impact on his career.

The 53-year-old television mogul is considered somewhat of a Lothario counting Carmen Electra and Dannii Minogue among his exes.

Cowell called off his engagement to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy last year and rumours about his sexuality have persisted because he’s yet to wed.

The X Factor creator says the chatter is only mildly irksome but he knows his success has nothing to do with who he dates.

“A lot of my friends are gay, but I’m not and don’t even think that way any more. It feels like such an antiquated question,” he told UK newspaper The Mirror.

Cowell did admit he wishes people would stop speculating. But only because homosexuality shouldn’t be a subject that’s taboo.

“I couldn’t care less because it’s nothing to be ashamed of. If I was living 200 years ago in a coal mine, maybe, but I work in possibly the gayest industry in the world,” he mused.

The star added that it simply makes “no difference” whether or not a person is gay.

He is far more focused on his professional life than he is interested in discussing personal details.

Cowell is reportedly working overtime to get Noel Gallagher to join the judging panel of The X Factor UK.

According to UK newspaper The Sun, management representing the former Oasis guitarist have been asked to name his price. Reports suggest they are negotiating a figure around $3 million.

“Simon is determined to get Noel on board. He sees him as his natural replacement as the real alpha male on the panel,” an insider said.

“He thinks Noel would be ideal, with his music knowledge, straight-talking and rapier wit.”

The 45-year-old musician has yet to comment on the report.
