Like a celebrity hassled by a paparazzo, one gorilla at a Colorado zoo who encountered a visitor snapping her picture reacted in a time-honored way — she flipped off the busybody photographer, who posted the image to Reddit. The gorilla, a 19-year-old western lowland named Kwisha, is housed at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. It’s understandable that many find the image funny, though the circumstances behind Kwisha’s extended finger are not. She suffered tendon damage to the finger about 12 years ago and can’t bend it now. Thus, whenever she makes a fist it appears she’s giving the finger.
