Filming for a mini-series on Christchurch’s quakes has finally come to an end.
“It’s been exhausting,” said Hope and Wire co-producer Chris Hampson.
“But as Cantabrians know only too well, it takes a little bit longer to do everything. Everything you do is more difficult than you are used to.”
The series is the brainchild of film-maker Gaylene Preston, who wrote the script with Dave Armstrong.
Hundreds of Cantabrians were employed as extras to supplement the cast of 70 actors.
Much of the series was filmed at the studios at Maddison Park in Templeton, but on-location shoots included parts of Burwood and the central city.
Because of the difficulty in accessing the central-city red zone, parts of the central city had to be replicated on sets.
Studio manager and production liaison Jordan Mauger said 50 to 60 tonnes of clean silt was trucked all over Christchurch to replicate liquefaction, and sets for the interiors of houses were balanced on the inflated inner tubes of tyres so they could be shaken.
The six part mini-series will screen this year on TV3.
