Evangeline Lilly was “bullied” on The Hobbit set, jokes Martin Freeman.
The actress has joined the franchise for new instalment, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, portraying feisty elf Tauriel. Martin, who plays Bilbo Baggins, claims the male-dominated cast made it tough for Evangeline to settle in.
“We bullied her. She kind of came along and ruined it, because it was a sort of manly band of brothers, and then she came along and insisted on being all girly and all that,” he told ET Online at the Los Angeles premiere for the film last night.
“So we sort of ostracised her as far as possible until we were told off by Peter Jackson [director].
“I didn’t even see it as mean. I saw it as our duty to a certain extent. Just to make her really work for it.”
Despite Freeman’s claims, Lilly insists her co-stars couldn’t have been nicer.
The Lost actress was thrilled to be surrounded by such generous guys, who went out of their way to make her feel welcome.
“Nothing could be farther from the truth,” Lilly smiled when asked if she was bullied on set.
“The boys treated me like a gosh-darn princess. They flirted with me, they doted on me, they were chivalrous to me. I was in heaven. I was surrounded by gorgeous, charming men every day for a year. It was wonderful.”
Meanwhile, fellow co-star Orlando Bloom was quizzed about his relationship with Miranda Kerr at the premiere.
Bloom has separated from his model wife, but insists the pair will remain on good terms for the sake of their son Flynn.
“We’re a family and we’ll always love each other and we’re going to be in each other’s lives,” he told E! News. “What [Flynn] reads and knows about when he’s a grown up is more important to me than anything.
“We both love and cherish each other and then our boy so it’s great.”
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in New Zealand on 12 November.
