Durham suffers brain haemorrhage

The Seekers frontwoman Judith Durham is in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage soon after performing as part of the band’s 50th anniversary tour.

The band’s Melbourne concerts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are now in doubt, with tonight’s performance at Hamer Hall postponed, the band’s publicist said.

Durham, 69, was admitted to a Melbourne hospital about 1am after calling her personal assistant and telling him she felt there was ”something wrong”, publicist Dianna O’Neill said.

Durham had felt unwell while driving back to her hotel on Monday night after the band’s concert at Hamer Hall, O’Neill said.

On Tuesday morning she was conscious and speaking and would be moved to a room at an unnamed Melbourne hospital, she said.

O’Neill said Durham was ”upset” at the postponement of tonight’s concert, as she did not want to disappoint her fans.

She said she had spoken to Durham’s bandmate Athol Guy, who was devastated at the news.

There seemed to be no indication during Monday’s concert that Durham was unwell.

In a review of the performance, The Age music writer Michael Dwyer said Durham’s ”cut-crystal voice was in ageless form”.
