Everything started when PK Krishnamurthy from Muland, India. went to the doctor’s clinic because of the itching and burning in his eye.
Krishnamurthy had been suffering for more than two weeks with redness and irritation before the doctor pin-pointed the threadlike creature under a microscope on Wednesday.
After a quick check-up Dr. V. Seetharaman removed a 5-inch worm from his eye. “It was wriggling there under the conjunctiva ( thin membrane lining the eye). It was the first time in my career of 30 years that I had seen such a case.” said Dr. V. Seetharaman.
The patient was relieved of his symptoms while the worm, which was alive for another 30 minutes after surgery, was sent to the hospital’s microbiologists to be identified.
It is assumed that the worm somehow got in the blood stream and move all the way up to Krisnamurthy’s eye. Luckily they removed the worm otherwise there was big possibility that the worm might have moved to the brain and caused serious neurological problems.
