A cross-Tasman tug of war is testing the strength of Kiwis against Aussies.
The virtual rope pull is believed to be the first technology of its kind measuring tension on two separate ropes – one at Sylvia Park shopping centre in Auckland and the other in Sydney.
New Zealand competitors on the upcoming Amazing Race series were among those doing battle against their Australian counterparts today. Soap stars also got in on the action, with Shortland Street beating Home and Away in an early victory for New Zealand.
The competition will last three days and is open to the public to try out. Frankie Adams, who plays Ula Levi in Shortland Street, said apart from sore arms she took away bragging rights.
“I was the one that had all the power in my team,” she said. “I was probably the one that won it.
“It must be my muscle. It looks easy but it was not.”
Kiwi Amazing Race entrants John Gbenda-Charles and Murray Roeske won their tug of war contest.
The friends entered the reality series after a dare to film an audition tape at Christchurch Airport.
“We were a little dusty after a couple of cocktails but [the video] came up all right and now we’re here,” Gbenda-Charles said.
The Amazing Race is due to start on TV2 on Tuesday, August 5.
