Cowabunga! In the latest trailer for The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans get a better look at the guys in green, Megan Fox faints and that alien debacle is all cleared up.
For those who loved the 80s cartoons, there’s plenty of nostalgic nods to the series, but a distinct lack of Italian food for the four pizza-obsessed, crime-fighting turtles.
The reimagined versions of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo feature much more in this new trailer, which hit the web after fans unlocked a series of character posters online.
The trailer kicks off with an underground subway battle between the turtles and members of the evil Foot Clan – the masked ninjas that follow baddie Shredder.
They then save reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox), who captures the whole she-bang on her mobile.
But filmmakers have axed her signature yellow jumpsuit, with Fox sporting a canary-coloured leather jacket instead.
When she properly meets the talking, weapon-wielding turtles, it’s all a bit much for the poor reporter, who faints dramatically.
Aside from meeting our heroes, we also get to see the Samaurai-style villain – Shredder.
In a suit that makes him look like Edward Scissorhands on crack, Shredder throws his knives as Splinter the CGI rat (and the turtle’s teacher), who dodges them Matrix-style.
Jet-powered skateboards, explosions, and close escapes follow, telling fans that director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay (Transformers) are making this an action-packed affair.
The trailer even adresses the intense outrage spewed online when Bay said the turtles would be from an “alien race” in 2012.
“So they’re aliens” Arnett asks.
“No, that’s stupid. They’re turtles,” April replies.
New Zealand fans will have to wait until September 18 to see Leonardo (voiced by Johnny Knoxville), Raphael (Alan Ritchson), Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) and Donatello (Jeremy Howard) for themselves.
