In-depth research by intrepid CNN reporter Randi Kaye has revealed that the world seems a whole lot funnier when you sit in the back of a cannabis smoke-filled car with the windows closed.
As part of the network’s coverage of the legalisation of cannabis in Colorado state, Kaye went on an organised tour of newly-opened pot dispensaries.
The piece is a good advertisement for operator Colorado Rocky Mountain High Tour Co, as the item shows tour members being driven around in the back of a stretch Hummer, visiting dispensaries and then enjoying their purchases when they are back in the vehicle.
Speaking to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper later, Kaye giggled as she described the research done in the back of the limo as “top notch”.
“My brain was a little fuzzy by the time I got out of there,” she said.
“I wasn’t thinking right. I couldn’t remember even some of the questions that I wanted to ask in the interview, which has never happened to me when I’m reporting in the field, and I found things to be really funny, much finnier than I normally do,” Kaye said.
“So I think we got a little bit of a contact high there.”
She insisted it was only a “contact high”, adding: “there was a lot of smoke”.
Which may turn out to be about the most controversial statement of the whole piece. According to Wikipedia, a contact high is a psychological phenomenon that happens when someone sober comes into contact with someone under the influence of drugs. The physiological state of intoxication is supposedly transferred to the sober person.
Referring to the CNN item, Wikipedia said it was unclear whether Kaye was referring to the proper definition of a contact high, or its technically incorrect variant regarding second-hand smoke effects.
Whatever it was, Kaye seems to be taking her moment of fame in good humour, retweeting messages from fans about how much they loved her giggly segment. She also wrote,
