Student blogger Kristen Wolfe works at a toy store. While on duty she overheard two boys come into the store to buy video games.
The older athletic boy was helping his younger brother to make a choice. The youngest was quite a contrast to his elder sibling explains the blogger “He was a wrestler at the local high school. Kind of tall, stocky and handsome. He had a younger brother, who was maybe about 10 to 12 years old. The only way to describe him was scrawny, neat, and very clean for a boy his age.”
The child didn’t know which game to pick, but he did have a list of prerequisites
– He wanted his character to be a girl
– He wanted a “girl color” controller
The boys decided, with assistance from the helpful employee on Mirrors Edge with a Purple colored controller.
As the two were preparing to finalize their purchase, the boys’ father came and explained to the younger and slighter of statue child that he did not approve of his choice, for either item. He further gave the child a direct order to put them back, choose a more masculine game and proceed to checkout. The paternal parent also gave consequences of a corporal type punishment for disobedience.
At this point the older child intervened and explained since he was paying for the toys, if the father wanted to inflict any sort of violence; it would have to be upon him. The father then retreated, presumably out of fear of a physical confrontation with his older and more athletic son.
The author of the blog was very impressed with the older child sticking up for his little brother, that she devoted that day’s blog to the story of the brave brother.
