With the growing technology and mass market in cloud-based content creation Autodesk, which is known for architectural and design software, started buying companies that is more suitable for ordinary consumers.
The company started the expanding process by buying Instructables, a how-to site where people swap ways of building everything from pizza ovens to robots, for $32 million. Then it bought Pixlr, which is an online photo editor, for an undisclosed sum. not only Autodesk expanding by buying other companies it also develops new apps and technologies itself just like Sketchbook; an online software for drawing and painting.
“There is no limit to how much people want to show off their work,” said Carl Bass, Autodesk’s chief executive. “We’re trying to tap into a vein of human creativity.” Autodesk plans to invest in cloud computing infrastructure to deliver and manage these consumer products, as well as its professional software, he said.
