The world is waiting with bated breath for the follow-up to last year’s hit Gangnam Style.
But with Psy’s latest single set to be released this week, the K-Pop star is starting to feel the pressure.
According to the Korean Herald, the video for the new single, Gentleman, was only finished two days ago.
It is due to be unleashed on the world on Friday, when it hits iTunes at midnight (NZ time 3am) in 119 countries.
On Saturday, Psy will give his first live performance of the track at a concert in Seoul, livestreamed on Psy’s official YouTube channel.
Hype for the single has been building in the weeks leading up to the release with Psy tweeting pictures of himself in the studio with his head in his hands, hash tagged “pain of creating”.
He has also requested everyone at Saturday’s concert to wear white, while tweeting pictures of himself in a space suit, a storm trooper outfit, a wedding dress and an ice skating leotard, among other things.
The concert is expected to give the people of South Korea a small reprieve from the threat of war emanating from their neighbours in the North.
According to The Guardian, Psy’s manager Hwang Kyu-hwan said it would be a lie to pretend the singer wasn’t feeling the pressure over the new release
“But he’s not expecting a repeat of Gangnam Style . . . and that’s taken the pressure off a bit. Now he seems to be enjoying himself and is expecting a great show on Saturday,” he said.
While Psy has been involved with the K-Pop scene for more than 10 years, it was Gangnam Style, which was released last July, that introduced him to the world.
His video gained more than 1.5 billion hits, and became a dance craze sensation, spawning copycat videos worldwide of people performing the horsey dance.
