Kiwi actress Anna Paquin’s mutant Rogue has been cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The True Blood reprised her role to reunite with Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen from the original X-Men trilogy for a brief appearance in the latest instalment featuring the team of super mutants.
But director Bryan Singer now revealed that the mother of twins didn’t make it into the final cut.
“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” Singer told Entertainment Weekly.
“It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it.
“But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go.
“Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”
The director also said Paquin was “awesome in the sequence” and he would work with her again “in a heartbeat”.
“She completely understood. It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve,” Singer said.
X-Men: Days of Future Past features “original X-Men” stars Stewart, McKellen and Jackman, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Daniel Cudmore, as well as First Class members include James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult.
Joining the franchise in new roles will be Adam Canto, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Fan Bing Bing.
It is set to release in May 2014.
