Amanda Bynes has claimed her outrageous behaviour has been an act to help her prepare for a film.
The American star has made a string of headlines over the last few months. As well as posting odd pictures and rude comments about stars such as Drake and Rihanna on Twitter, she was arrested for marijuana possession and briefly placed in a psychiatric hospital. She has also undergone cosmetic surgery, apparently fallen out with her family and shaved her head.
There has been speculation about her mental wellbeing, but the 27-year-old star has now opened up about her supposed meltdown to her friend Jonathan Jaxson.
“Sooo @AmandaBynes has told tonight that she has been “acting” this entire time on Twitter to get attention as she prepares for next movie! (sic),” he wrote on Twitter.
Jonathan has been friends with the actress for many years. He summoned police to her New York City apartment last month after becoming concerned she was suicidal, resulting in her getting arrested after reportedly throwing a bong out of the window. She later claimed it was a vase.
He posted images of text messages between himself and Amanda on Twitter, in which she elaborates on her strange behaviour.
“All this has been an act and you know it! I am an actress and know what I am doing,” she wrote.
Apparently sceptical, Jonathan replied: “Seriously I mean don’t you know that drugs were apart of it and you may also have something mentally wrong (sic)”
Amanda responded: “I got to 2 million followers and now everyone wants me. I am smart and not stupid. Everyone mentions my name. The world loves me!”
The actress has been blasted for repeatedly branding people “ugly” and it’s also been suggested some of her remarks are racist. Jonathan pointed this out in the text message exchange, with Amanda seemingly not worried.
“Just wait and see!” she wrote.
Jonathan is apparently relieved to hear his friend is well and is in no doubt she is telling the truth.

“If you send me texts telling me you are doing this all as an act, I will let the world know. Especially when sooo many have been worried! (sic),” he wrote.
Amanda’s strange behaviour is said to have even concerned her parents, who were rumoured to be looking into making her the subject of a conservatorship order following her arrest. This is the same legislation Britney Spears’ family used to ensure they could control her personal and professional affairs.
