Amanda Bynes was reportedly taken into custody for raucous behaviour.
The 27-year-old former children’s television star has been generating widespread concern due to her bizarre conduct in recent months.
New York City police officers were called to her apartment Thursday night, law enforcement insiders told NBC New York.
Apparently authorities were investigating reports of disruptive behaviour and when they arrived at Amanda’s home on West 47th Street she threw a water bong out of the window.
She was then taken into custody for reckless endangerment.
Bynes was transported to Roosevelt Hospital for psychiatric evaluation before being processed at a Midtown police station.
Bynes’ representatives have not yet commented on reports of arrest.
Much of the star’s social media activity on Twitter has given rise to speculation she may be mentally ill or abusing drugs.
It has now been claimed that Bynes’ bizarre moods are continuing after she attempted to get on a private flight at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey at the weekend.
She was reportedly prevented from boarding a private jet after failing to provide identification and asking staff to google her.
Earlier this month Bynes pled no contest to driving on a suspended licence and was placed on three years probation. In December of last year she reached a financial settlement with victims involved in two hit-and-run cases.
Bynes still has a driving under the influence case looming over her.
As part of her probation she must obey all laws without fail or face further punishment.
