A New Birth Control Method for Men

We have good news for men who don’t want children for now but may want them someday in the future. Even though there are other ways to protect unwanted pregnancy like condoms, birth control pills and vasectomy.  This may be the best option for men who wants to be in control and prevent accidents.

The downside is if you are afraid of getting shots probably this method is not for you. Because  it requires the man to receive an injection into the vas deferens with a polymer gel called Vasalgel, after a local anesthetic has been given. The substance works by breaking apart sperm.

“Within an hour, the drugs produce an electrical charge that nullifies the electrical charge of the spermatozoa, preventing it from penetrating the ovum,” says Dr. Guha, who developed the contraceptive at ITT Kharagpur in India.

After testing RISUG on over 250 volunteers, Dr. Guha reported little or no side effects other than slight scrotal swelling in some men immediately after the injection, which dissipates after a few weeks.

According to the studies in India trials show that it is 100 percent effective. The procedure takes 15 minutes and it lasts up to 10 years and it is so much easier to reverse the procedure than vasectomy.

If a man decides he’d like to have his sperm up and running again with getting another shot, within two to three months, the sperms will be strong enough to produce babies.

Researchers think that procedure will be available on the U.S. Market by 2015.
