Five people were killed in a boating accident near Jacksonville, Florida, Sunday, a rescue official said.
Twelve people were aboard the boat that crashed into a dock under construction on the St. John’s River in Ponte Vedra, said Jeremy Robshaw, a spokesman for St. Johns County Fire and Rescue. The remaining seven were hospitalized for serious injuries he said. The accident happened at about 7 p.m., about 20 miles from Jacksonville. Robshaw said rescuers had to use plywood panels to reach the passengers of the boat.
